The Manly Catholic: Igniting Men to Light the World on Fire
Ep 119 - When the Past Collides with the Present, A Prophecy with Jim Valois
James interviews another James about a Marian apparition and prophecy all the way back from the 16th century and one you probably have never heard about. Inspired partly by Jesse Romero, James Valois wrote about this time-defining apparition in his latest book 'Our Lady's Prophecies, God's Messages for Our Times.' The conversation touches on topics such as the decline in faith and morals, the rise of communism, the importance of repentance, and the hope for restoration.
Make sure you buy the book here!
Takeaways
- Our Lady's prophecies should be taken seriously and used as a guide for amending our lives and fighting against the cultural challenges of our time.
- The decline in faith and morals, the rise of communism, and the push for sin through legislative means are issues that need to be resisted and fought against.
- Frequenting the sacraments, attending Mass, and going to confession are important practices for spiritual growth and resistance against darkness.
Food for Thought
- "When all will seem like it's lost in darkness, that will be the hour that our Lady steps in and plays her role."
- "We need to push back and resist that (sin) and spiritually resist and fight against what is wrong in our country."
- "Thank you so much for entering the fight. Thank you so much for writing this book."

The apparition occurred way back in
I remember correctly, the nineties in Ecuador, which is a very fascinating story. The apparitions, the prophecies that our lady gave to totally blank on the nun's name right now. So I'm not going to try to say it right now, but the prophecies were for actually our time now in the 20th and the 20th, 21st century. So it's a very fascinating conversation. and I'm really excited for you guys to listen, but before we dive into that, I want to always.

and God bless.
James Caldwell (07:14.862)
Jim, can you hear me? I can hear you, yes. Yes, I can hear you, perfect. Thank you. I'm glad we were able to figure this out. Sorry about that. Sometimes the link works and technology, man. Yes, that's right. Give me one second. I usually don't use Zoom. I'm just trying to figure out the interface. Sure. It's pretty straightforward. But OK, we're already recording. Good.
Okay. And you can see me fine, correct? Yes, I can. Okay. Excellent. Perfect. Go to... Beautiful. Okay. I loved your book, Jim. This was a great... Yes. I'm excited to speak with you. And so, cause I mean, cause I have never heard of this apparition. I'm just being totally honest with you. And I'm, cause it's not really, I guess, something that you hear of, you know, lords and...
Yeah. And all of those as well, but Fatima and stuff too. But, this is a, this is a good one. And I was, it's a short read too, which, you know, it's easy for people to understand. So. Well, I'm glad to hear that because it's really a lot of people don't know about it because it was not meant to be known until the time that we're in right now. It's kind of interesting. Yeah. Absolutely.
Yeah, it was supposed to be kind of obscure. Sister Mariana was so humble that God granted her, I think, the wish that she would be unknown until our time. man. And that's why now she's known and she's becoming more known. Yeah, all the time. Absolutely. Amen. Well, the Holy Spirit always is working, isn't he? Yes, he is. Absolutely. Yeah.
Do you have any questions Jim before we get going? No, no, okay. Well just maybe Is there any anything I should do like in terms of I try to brighten up the room here But yeah, the lighting is totally fine. I can hear you good So I I have no qualms of mine and two so I don't think too when I upload our audio and stuff It kind of does a little on the back end it like tries to clean it up a little bit But yeah, there's no echo or anything. So
James Caldwell (09:39.47)
good. We're good. And then do you get Did you get the question? Whereas if you could be the patron saint of anything? Yes, I did. Okay. Excellent. Perfect. Okay. So that's always the one else. I'll start with a Hail Mary. And then I'll introduce you. I'll introduce you first. We'll do Hail Mary. And then I'll we'll kick it off. Okay. Beautiful. And then, Jim, how do you say your last name? So I do not butcher it. Yeah, it's you could say Val, Valoy.
we yeah we go with voloi. Voloi. Yes. Okay. We'll do that. It's Valois in French if you want to you know use the French. I will put James you know if you if you know anything about me I'm terrible at pronouncing foreign names so. Probably like a lot of saints you know where we're at that point where we haven't mastered 15 languages like some of them have you know.
Gosh, people are like, yeah, he spoke like eight languages or 12 languages. I was like, yeah, like no big deal. Like I could just speak it fluently. Yeah. man. All right.
Hello all welcome to another episode of the Manly Catholic. This is James your host and tonight we have a guest I'm very excited to bring on we have Jim Velois. Jim, welcome to the Manly Catholic podcast. Thank you for having me on. Yeah. Yeah, so Jim wrote this book, which I am excited to share with you guys because I'm sure most of you probably not heard of it but
I'll flash it here for those of you watching on YouTube, but it's called a beautiful cover too, by the way. So it's Our Lady's Prophecies, God's Messages for Our Time, which I think, you know, I think we'll want to hear this, Jim. So I'm glad you brought this to the world, because again, it's something that I certainly had never heard of. And I'm sure a lot of our listeners have not as well. So I'm excited to dive into that topic with you. But before we...
James Caldwell (11:40.398)
Get into that, I think it's very appropriate that we will start with a Hail Mary. So we'll start with the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Bless art thou among women and bless it as the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us and it is now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, amen. Now, Jim, the question I always like to kick it off with.
You could be the patron saint of anything. What would it be and why? I would love to be the patron saint of storytelling because ever since I was a young person, I've been writing stories and telling usually fiction fiction. And so that would be one of the things that that I would be known for ever since.
I've been very small. Well, you're off to a good start with this book, Jim, because I think you did a very good job with the storytelling aspect. But it's something that it is a skill, you know, storytelling, because we think about people who may were gravitate gravitated towards, you know, on stage or something, they're very good at telling a story or, you know, selling something, but they do it in a story format. And we're, you know, we gravitate towards that because we're human and we love a good story. So, you know, yeah. Now, Jim, so tell us about
this book because I mean, I guess what made you want to write it in first place and why is it so important right now? Well, you know, Jim, in response to why I wanted to write it, I wanted to add my voice to the other voices out there so that Mary's message could be made known because.
This message was going to be kind of obscure up until the time it was needed. Then our lady said the message would go forth in great power. When it was needed the most at this time, because the message, even though it was given 400 years ago, was meant for the 20th and 21st century.
James Caldwell (14:09.742)
Yeah, and so what?
James Caldwell (14:14.03)
Sorry.
Sorry, my computer did something weird here.
Okay, there we go. Sorry. I don't know what happened there. Technology. We're always struggling with it. Yes. Okay. We're on the right target. Yeah, right. We're talking about something good here. Okay, so tell us about Mother Mariana de Jesus. I hope I'm saying her name correctly. And the apparitions that you wrote about in the book. Let's talk about those. Sure. Mother, you know, she, you know,
her name Mariana, you know, of Torres, she was, you know, kind of developed a relationship, came to a relationship with the Lord. And as she had this relationship, it got deeper and deeper. And she got to the point where she wanted to be a missionary. And so she wanted to join her aunt and become a conceptionist.
which is a branch of the Franciscans. And so at that point, she wanted to travel to the New World, which at that time was South America. So she told her parents, her parents were, they were good with the, you know, the idea of her joining and being a part of religious life. But they were not really wanting her to leave Spain.
James Caldwell (15:49.198)
because she was, you know, from the country of Spain, Northern Spain. So she, she, you know, Jesus won out. And she ended up coming over to a little country called Ecuador in a colony that was the colony of St. Francis. So that's how she got her roots of traveling clear across the known world.
in ending up in the colony of Saint Francis. Jesus always wins out, doesn't he? Yes, he does. Even when we ignore him or we try to say, I'm going to go the other way, he always steers us back. It's just a matter of us cooperating with it. So, OK, so OK, so she's in she's in Ecuador. And then so so what what happened? When did these apparitions start for her? OK.
Then, you know, as she made her vows and started to live the life in when when she became like around 1582. So we're talking that 1582 was when she started to receive what I call I in the book I call it the vision of the three swords, because she sees these swords with the words heresy, impurity.
and blasphemy on each of the swords and hanging over our Lord's head in a crucifixion as he's in a crucified form and she sees this apparition and she thinks it's maybe because of her sins her faults and our lady assures her it's not because of her faults but these are because of the sins of the
of this century or the 20th century and beyond. So that's how she receives the first apparition. And it's very powerful when she's asked if she will be a victim soul for our time. And she says that she will. So then the swords plunge right into her. And she then
James Caldwell (18:12.43)
is kind of like baptized in this mission that she will have for our generations.
Now for for maybe those listeners who are just listening, Jim, are can we define because you said blasphemy, heresy and impurity. Correct? Yeah. Can we define blasphemy? I'm sure most people have heard of impurity, but maybe I'm just for again, for those who may have not heard those terms before, what is blasphemy and what is heresy? Well, you know, we see examples of it today in some of the groups that are out there that are dressing
like religious, but in their mocking our faith, the marking our Lord, the mocking the passion. So it's it's it's an outright mockery is one example of a blasphemy of of the sacred of our Lord and his passion and sacred people, saints mocking them too. And so
In our time we are starting to see this in a very public fashion and then you see people that own sports teams don't seem to have a clue as to how serious an affront that is to the faith. And so that's really what it is and it's grown quite a bit and I attribute a lot of the growth due to communism.
both abroad and also in our own country, a collectivist kind of mentality. Interesting. Do you mind expand on that, Jim? Why do you think communism is the one that's contributing to this in particular? Well, if you look at communism and you see most of the false teaching that in spouses,
James Caldwell (20:20.654)
has happened, most of the deaths, let me say it that way, violence and death has resulted from the false teaching of communism. So communism is a alternative religion and anything that stands in the way of communism, they will stamp out. So for example, in China right now, they can't tolerate
having the Catholic faith in China, so they want to stamp it out. And they're doing everything they can to do that. They also have concentration camps in China, where they have many religious groups in camps, where whenever they need an organ, they can actually go to those people and take from one of them. And so the Chinese communists,
are doing horrendous things and we should not be, you know, treating them as if they are the next best thing on the block because the communists are treating their own people with a violence and a brutality that is little known but needs to change and they need to respect all people.
Yeah, amen. Yeah. And a communist, gosh, we just go through the list of communist nations, not only now, but throughout the centuries too, you know, and just the brutal, brutal acts against people. And again, yeah, we're seeing it now a day, even in our own country as well, maybe not as explicit as like you said, China or, you know, even North Korea or, you know, Russia in the past as well. You know, I didn't want to ask because you brought up communism too. So with this,
Apparition in a sense because you know our lady and Fatima warned to against you know the the Russia will spread her errors and everything like that with this in a way be Kind of correlated to what our lady said back in was it? 1592 when the when the apparition started correct me if I'm wrong there Jim. Well, you're close. You're very close 1582 1582. Okay. Yeah, and then of course
James Caldwell (22:48.59)
I think you're absolutely right that Our Lady of Fatima came in 1917 and she basically was calling people to repentance. And the same in 1858 in Our Lady of Lourdes. There was three times, penance, penance, penance. So there's Our Lady has been calling, if you go up into modern times, our times in Akita in 1973,
Our Lady was calling for repentance. Otherwise a chastisement would be fall and and then in Cabello, Our Lady of Cabello in 1981 to 89 again the call to repentance. So there's this constant theme of repentance that really is what we're called to as as a world, but many times.
It seems as if people are not really getting that message or taking that message to heart that they need to take. You know, it's funny too, as a modern reader, we look in like the Old Testament, you know, the Israelites and we think we're, you know, like, well, how could you do that? Like, how can you wander in?
Is it because isn't it true too like the the journey in the desert it only takes actually like three weeks or something but in the desert for 40 years because they just kept messing up but you know we do the same thing as humans you know and this is over hundreds of years right versus 40 is that you know we look back and say how can you not see the errors that are going on but yeah we're in the same thing now so yeah how can we not see the errors of
of everything going on with transgenderism and you know, having life changing surgeries on children and you know, not having to notify their parents. I mean, it's just it's crazy. Like when we look in 20 years, we're going to look back. It's like, what were you guys thinking? What were you guys doing? Because so we haven't really changed, which is sad, because again, we have these apparitions like Mary and she keeps repeating the same thing over and over and over again to new generations. But we we just.
James Caldwell (25:00.014)
We just aren't listening. And that's that really is the sad thing. Because again, we look back, you know, when I was reading your book, too, and because you look back throughout the apparitions to that, Mary has done the message is very similar, but it's very distinct as well. So it's not like I don't want to say she's what she's saying is not, you know, transformative because it is. But it really is a call almost to simplicity. Yeah. In my mind, too, is it's like, hey, you got to return to the basics, return to my son.
and repent, repent, repent, like you said. You know, and I did want to ask you too, Jim, not only the the apparitions that happened, but she, Our Lady also prophesied during these apparitions as well, is that correct? He did. She gave prophecies specifically for the 20th century. So, you know, she gave prophecies for our time, and she said, this would begin. So the
the things the various decline in faith and morals that our lady spoke about would begin in the 19th and then in the 20th centuries particularly and then they would continue on so these things and and and and i think you make a really good point about transgenderism because bishop aliott wrote a book on the sexual revolution a new book and
In that book, he points out the reality of the new sexual revolution is happening. And I think part of it is this transgender movement, where we should be loving and reaching out to these young people as Catholic health care professionals and Catholic people in general, we should be the first ones to come to their aid. But instead, you have secularists
who are making a profit off of them and having them go through these life altering surgeries. So I think that's one of the major things that's happening in our times. And I'm glad you brought it out. Yeah, it really is sad, Jim, that it's just the whole the whole movement and everything. Because again, we talked about, you know, the the horrors are being done to children, life altering surgeries and, you know, all in the sake of, you know, trying to make them feel better in the moment.
James Caldwell (27:26.574)
you know, which, you know, nobody wants to talk about it, but they're going through a clear mental illness, you know, a clear difficulty in their life and they don't have the support that they need. They have these people who are just like echo chambers, especially, I mean, that's the danger of online too and social media is that you can just follow people who are in your own echo chamber and you don't really see the other side. It was like, like maybe...
Maybe there's something going on. Maybe this is just a phase. Maybe this is just temporary and this isn't my identity and who I define myself. And again, that kind of goes into the broader, broader scope of our culture in general. And that it is more about the self identity, you know, self improvement, I mean, self help. I mean, look at the millions of billions of dollars spent on self help books, you know, through every single year when it really is about actually dying to yourself and giving yourself to others.
You know, and Mary again is talking about this in her prophecies too, and you mentioned marriage as well. I mean, I think Our Lady too prophesied, I don't know, it wasn't this one. I forget the apparition, but this is basically the final battle that Satan is gonna try to go against is the battle of the family, as well, especially as the fathers too, which is a huge reason why I started this podcast is to inspire men and fathers too to...
know, step up, take up their shield and say, you know, you cannot get past me, you know, and you're not going to get to my family, you know, and so, you know, even in apparitions like like you mentioned, too. And this one in particular, you know, there's so much, you know, it was over 300 years ago, but so much meaning and depth and insight into our into our situation nowadays. I just can't say enough. Sorry, I rambled on for a little bit, Joe. So hang on there. I'm glad you did, because.
You know, like one of the things that I try. I'm trying to get out there also is the fact that this is approved. These are approved by ecclesial authority, and for those that understand the how big of a deal that is like this was not only approved by the first bishop, but if you were to go back to, for example. The.
James Caldwell (29:46.926)
Bishop that approved it. Salvador Rivera Alvarez. He approved it way back in 1611, but at sisters funeral. The 9th Bishop of Keto, Pedro de Alviedo gave the funeral mass and homily for Mother Mariana and he praised her heroic virtue. And her charismatic gift of prophecy and then every subsequent Bishop of Keto upheld.
approvals. So it goes all the way into modern times, where Archbishop Antonio González Sumerraga, he was made a cardinal, he initiated the cause for the beatification of Mother Mariana. And so anyway, my point is, it goes all the way up to the papal crown, put there by the Vatican, because
This devotion has been going on more than 100 years and it's worthy. It's been found worthy to do that. So those that are concerned, well, is this approved by Rome? It has one of the most approved ratings, if you will, of all their apparitions. Yeah, no, that's you. And Jim, I don't want to put you on the spot by any means. So if you don't feel comfortable answering, please tell me. But do you mind going into a little bit?
of the approval process for an apparition, such as this, like we can speak broadly to just so people kind of are aware, maybe they've never heard of that before. So what exactly does the church have to do to investigate an apparition like this in order to gain approval? Well, for example, they they look at both to try to see the supernatural character of the apparition. So
They're looking for signs of the reality that it's not something that can be explained by natural occurrences. And they're looking, I'm sure, at the messages to see if they correlate with existing public revelation. And they're also looking at the life of the apparition, the person who has the apparition, like Mother Mariana. She and
James Caldwell (32:13.294)
I think it's seven nuns now from the convent have been found to be in corrupt from 16 well 1906 and that's not a sign per se but it certainly doesn't hurt you know and say another another sort of you might call it a punctuation mark I kind of that's what I refer to it as is a punctuation.
God's punctuation work. Yeah, that's definitely whenever they say that about a person like, yeah, that's kind of an exclamation point. And in my opinion, too, it's like, yeah, it doesn't guarantee it. But you probably should should take a closer look at that. But but no, thank you for explaining that to you. And another thing, too, for those of you who are Catholic or maybe don't know or are non -Catholic out there, because this is what's considered private revelation. So, again, the church investigates, even though it is approved by the church.
It's not like a dogma that as Catholics you have to believe, but you know, like our Lady of Fatima is probably the most common one that people have heard of. Again, you don't have to believe everything that was said that, you know, Sister Lucia and her cousins revealed to us that Mary appeared to them as well. But again, there's, it doesn't hurt anything because again, when church approves it, they have determined that it doesn't go against anything that...
the church has dogmatically taught or any of the doctrine as well. So it only adds to it as well. So just to clarify any of that. And I did want to ask you too, because there's another prophecy too, Jim. I think I remember reading your book about, didn't Our Lady reveal that there would be like a Catholic president in Ecuador that would arise in it during election? Am I remembering that, Ms.
No, that's so you are remembering it right on. That is one really big deal that our lady said that there would be this Catholic president that would arise and that he would be a man of character and that he would die with the palm of martyrdom right in the square where the continent was. And I was in that square.
James Caldwell (34:36.333)
And it's very, very much adjacent to the presidential palace. I was in that square as an evangelical because at that time I had thought that Protestantism was the way to go. So I became a Protestant for several years. And now I have many Protestant friends and I look at them as brothers and sisters in Christ. But.
That's one of the things that we've learned from that apparition is that this president came 278 years later, almost, well, two centuries and almost a third century in President Don Gabriel Garcia Moreno. And he, I could tell you what his daily schedule was like, just, you know,
to see what he did as a Catholic, but he literally transformed and regenerated the entire country of Ecuador in a nutshell. And I encourage young people to read that chapter just for the leadership that they could learn from Gabriel Garcia Moreno, because he exudes
leadership. And he dedicated and consecrated the entire country to the sacred heart of our Lord. So another example to all of us. And when was he president, Jim? He was president. I can tell you. Or the chapter two that I could point people to. Yes, it would be chapter four. And he was president. He had different terms. So he had two successive terms.
and then he was president in 1860 as well. So almost he was going on his third term when some secret societies from Germany sent word to Peruvian secret societies to take him out because he consecrated the entire country to our Lord Jesus, the sacred heart of our Lord Jesus. Well, God bless that man. You know, can you imagine a
James Caldwell (37:03.502)
If President Biden consecrated America to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Yes, it was. It would change the whole course of the country. And that would be a then, of course, we would have to live that out by stopping the taking of innocent lives and by stopping this push toward mutilating children. Yeah.
Yeah, that's the bare minimum. Abortion and transgender, like we said, and everything else that comes with it too. Because you lose the dignity of life. And it's not even just the abortion, which is bad enough, but it's also now the opposite end, which is end of life care that they're calling it now. Assisted suicide and all this. And we just bat an eye and it's like, well.
No, I guess that makes sense, you know, logically and scientifically and it ends their suffering. And I mean, they throw out like these catchphrases too, but like, no, you're the dignity of human person, the dignity of life. And we're just kind of justifying it with these kind of, like I said, catchphrase and stuff too, which, you know, again, we haven't changed really throughout all of human history, you know? And again, our lady, you know,
appeared here as well. And she's saying the same thing over and over and over again. But did she prophecy any hope for us, Jim? Yes. Is it all doom and gloom, Jim? Or do we have some hope? No, we do have hope. In fact, when all will seem like it's lost in darkness, that will be the hour that our lady steps in and plays her role.
to have the devil chained. And we're going to see marvelous things happen at that point. And so that's what I call in my last chapter, the restoration. And I just touch on it. An entire book could be written on the restoration. But that is our hope because as Catholics, we're on the team of the civilization of love.
James Caldwell (39:23.726)
and life. And so being on the team of the civilization of love and life, we're on the team that will win and has won. And so that's one of the aspects of it that I don't think the other side always contemplates or likes to contemplate. Amen. Yeah, the battle is already won. We're just, no, the war is already won, excuse me, but there's all these battles that we still need to fight. Yes, absolutely.
Yeah. Now, Jim, what would I guess be the biggest takeaway our listeners can take away from? I mean, obviously, lots of things we discussed about the prophecies, the apparitions. What would be the main thing you want our listeners to take home as we wrap up this conversation here? Sure. I would say, Jim, to, you know, one of the main things is for people to realize that we should take our ladies' prophecies serious. And
When she says something, see where we need to amend our own lives and make that a part of our ongoing life journey that we will amend our life. We will frequent the sacraments as often as we can, especially going to mass on a regular basis if we if we're able to and going to confession as often as possible and.
that we will not only frequent the sacraments, but that we will also fight against things in our culture that are bringing our young people down, that are pushing a sin through legislative means, and all other types of ways that the kingdom of darkness is trying to make.
inroads into our society. We need to push back and resist that and spiritually resist and fight against what is wrong in our country. Amen. Yeah, thank you so much for that message, Jim. And Jim, where can people buy the book? Where can they find out more about you? Thank you very much. James, one of the places they can get the book is through Sophia.
